New Years Eve at the beach

Dear Class,

we are in Adelaide, Australia. We live in a suburb called Semaphore in an apartment directly at the beach. At the beach there is a jetty.
At New Years Eve we had the pleasure to watch two big fireworks that were fired from the jetty! As far as I know private fireworks are forbidden here in Australia to prevent fires, but the cities organise big public fireworks. So everybody goes and watches them.
We were surprised by the first firework at 9:30 p.m. while we were on our balcony. We asked the neighbours and they said that this is the firework for families with young children, because they can go home when they are tired.
The second firework was at midnight. We went to the beach and sat on a dune to watch it. It was beautiful! Afterwards we ate fish & chips and ice cream at the beach. It had 20 °C. I think it is wonderful to have New Years Eve at the beach and under Palms!

All the best!
Thalia
